A long time client of mine asked me to refurbish this piece, we first thought about taking it back to its natural state however after discovering some wood worm we decided to take a different approach and she was extremely happy with the end result.
One of the design flaws (I think) of the old crystal cabinets is they are dark and very hard to see what is on display and with this unit it also had dark shelves which made it impossible to see the contents, we replaced the shelves with glass and used a plain light wallpaper to highlight the treasured pieces, I have noticed a trend to make the wallpaper at the back very ornate almost like a feature wall but again in my opinion this takes away from the function of what a crystal cabinet is suppose to be.
