A new client rescued this filing cabinet from a lawyers office that had closed down, I have not seen a wooden filing cabinet for some time. They were insistent that the character of the cabinet was kept but restored as best as possible and if possible have the drawers functional.
There was obviously a lot of wear and tear to the drawers and external surround and the top and back had split due to the wood drying out, two feet had suffered from water damage.
It was a cabinet that had been well used for many years and seen many secrets in its drawers.
Firstly it needed to be cleaned and an assessment of damage to be fixed, fixtures removed, cleaned and treated for rust, screws soaked to remove rust and wood clamped and glued back into place. The fixtures were mostly brass and would have been so easy to polish them back to new but that would not have been in keeping top the clients wishes and the final product is testament to that decision.
Overall the finished cabinet will service them for another 50 years.
